Guitar Hero: Van Halen
Activision, fresh from lining their pockets with Guitar Hero: Metallica money has announced that they are currently in development with a Van Halen title coming in the second half of this year. There hasn't been any mention of what peripherals will be made available, though I'm sure we can expect a reasonable facsimile of Eddie's signature black, white and red Kramer to accompany the title...we're a little more doubtful that Bassist - Michael Anthony's Jack Daniels Bass will make the rounds.Activision's Senior Vice President of Global Brand Management told Joystiq.com that the title will feature the David Lee Roth era version of the band and cut out Sammy Hagar all together. Also on the disc will be songs from other bands such as Queen, The Offspring, and Blink-182 among others. Evidently, there's nothing more reminiscent of Van Halen than "The Offspring", though truthfully, once you cut out Hagar there's only about 12 songs with Roth that could be considered worthy of a greatest hits moniker and these other bands will be needed to bring the song list to the 40 needed for a Guitar Hero release.
The franchise itself has already earned over $2 Billion for Activision, with more titles coming sooner than later.
In related news, Electronics Arts is looking forward to September 9th, when RockBand: The Beatles hits retail. Not soon enough though, as the NPD group is expecting a $400 Million loss over last years RockBand sales. A bit pricey at $250, the full Fab Four version will include exclusive Beatle-esque accesories such as Ludwig branded drums, a Hoffner-violin styled bass guitar, a mic and stand, some blotter acid and a four person Hooka.

Wii unFit: Users Shelve Unit After One Use?
Xbox Europe VP David Gosen bashed Nintendo at Microsoft's GameFest UK yesterday claiming "We've seen some research that says 60 percent of people who bought a Wii Fit play it once and don't play it again..." adding "...I think sometimes there is a thin line between gimmick and great gameplay."I think Mr. Gosen needs to be reminded of the E3 Microsoft press conference that occurred a few weeks ago, because I remember quite a few "gimmicky" titles that will be making their way to the 360 soon. Anyone up for a game of "You're in the Movies"? No, I didn't think so.
The fact is both Microsoft and Sony are feeling the heat of a Nintendo dominated market and are trying to bash them at every turn while also trying to copy their success.
